I actually LOVE IT! And go at least 3 times a week. Favourite machine - the cross trainer/eliptical trainer... the one at the gym I go to is now improved and has a screen on it so you can watch telly or listen the radio (through headphones which is excellent and drowns out the cr*ppy music they always play in these places). I use that exercise for 'Cardio' training and usually do at least 45 mins. on it. I also use the 'weight machines' for upper body - great stuff! So what do you do at the gym folks? N.

Interesting thread!
From Monday, I'll be scrapping most junk food, or at least keeping it to a minimum. Must get back in shape. I'm not too overweight, although I've developed a bit of a Kench (beer belly) over the last couple of years, so I'm all ready to get shut of it!
I have some weights in my shed, so I'll ease in to them gently, with a bit of time on an exercise bike!
It would be good to get rid of one of my chins too! ;D

Psst... a tip for you which DOES WORK if ye can stick to it...
try not to eat carbohydrates for your evening meal - it's not like the 'Atkins Diet' where you cut them out altogether, but you'll find that if yer after getting rid of a bit of weight/building muscle this is great - it's how I've got rid of 4 stone last time... as to how I put it all back though, that's another story!!!
So what do you have?
Easy... most veg. eggs. plenty meats and fish also will do ye (I don't, I'm veggie, so I go for 'Quorn' and the like).

So will that get rid of my 'beer belly'? That's my main concern. Being a bit of a short a*se, I feel paranoid about having a gut as well!

Nope! Simple but honest answer... You need some exercise too - let me know, I can show ye LOADS of easy exercises for the abdominal muscles... and some of these 'sit up' thingies are pretty good too. N.

I got into a good fitness routine early last year, and was getting results too. I felt less tired, didn't poo as much and was phsyically taking shape. Sadly, the willpower left me and I gave it up.
I'm ready to go again now though. The willpower is back, I'm motivated too. So hopefully I'll get back on track.

Go for it! Good 'motivator' is to post online and get support I feel - this is a good a place as any to do that! Set up yer own thread - put yer weight on/fitness regime/eating habits etc. If you cock up - so what? We're only human - as long as you're trying! It's great to check progress online, and to get comments from other people that are positive: For example: Click HereN.

I'm only a few pounds over for my height. It's mainly a matter of toning up a bit really. The hardest thing for me to quit is stuff like toffees, cakes and chocolate. Not that I eat that many anyway, but once I get into the fitness mode, my sweet tooth kicks in! Instead of sweet stuff, I'll be eating yoghurts and fruit as snacks instead! Thanks for your encouraging comments Dearth. Appreciated.

No probs. Hey psst - by the way: me latest purchase... Asda are doing them 'Sit-up' thingies for only a tenner - you know, the 'roll bar' type of exercise (this one's called the 'Ab Trimmer'). Well worth the money as the thing as SOLID and doesn't have any hinged bits etc. unlike a lot of the cr*ppy ones out there (you know, the type that 'assist' you more than you need making it too easy and less effective). What a buy - I got one last night, and was using the b*gger this morning at 5:30! No... not that I'm too dedicated lol, I was up at that time anyhow as I had to go to work. Told a girl at work about 'em, she wants me to pick up one for her - if you want me to do the same, just let me know as there's an Asda near the gym I go to. N.

Thanks for the offer, but I've already got one. I'd forgot I had though, so it's a good reminder for me. I'll dig it out the shed later. I'm breaking into my fitness regime gradually. I've started with just going on an exercise bike for now, until my body's used to a bit of strain again. I'll also do some ab exercises now as you've reminded me of that!... Then I'll get well into it by doing some weight exercises. I'll know it's working when I don't get aching legs by just going upstairs! ;D

Exercise Bike? Exer... Oh I remember them - they're the things used for hanging clothes on for ironing later! ;D Ah come on - everyone who's got one of 'em's used 'em for that!!! Serious for a moment - ye mentioned stairs - excellent for doing 'assisted pushups'. Basically, just do press-ups using the stairs... less strain on the joints and back if you're out of practice with this type of exercise, and it's pretty effective. Have a try. N.

I had a curry on Wednesday! Still breaking it to it gently yet ;D Surely it'll have gone cold by now. Oh I see... yer talking about the curry! Nah, no point just going 'all out' - as long as you start then it'll happen - you can't go from 0 - 100% in one go I reckon, because if you do, it'll be a 'novelty' and it'll soon get boring. Gradual change until you get into it. N.
